LETS TALK RELAY
Relay for Life is a volunteer driven event which originated in the United States. In May 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt, a colorectal surgeon from Washington, decided he wanted to raise money for the American Cancer Society. For 24 hours, Klatt walked around a track and through the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk 30 minutes with him. He walked approximately 83 miles and raised $27,000. After the event, Klatt recruited a small team of people and put on the first Relay For Life event in 1986. In the United States almost 4 million people take part in Relay for Life in over 5,000 communities. Relay for Life has now developed into an overnight event where people bring tents and sleep out around the tracks in over 21 countries. Relay For Life brings family/friends/work colleagues together to help raise vital money for research to beat cancer. Throughout the year, the teams work hard to fundraise in their local communities and we in the UK support the work of Cancer Research UK. Everyone comes together for an inspiring overnight celebration and commemoration that the whole community can be part of. Everyone is welcome to join Relay for Life regardless of age or fitness level. OUR RELAY
On the day of Portsmouth Relay for Life everybody gathers at the Mountbatten Centre and takes turns walking laps. At least one member of each team must be on the track at all times, while all around them, a party is in full swing. Portsmouth Relay for Life has a friendly, festival-like atmosphere that the whole family can enjoy. Camping, music, stalls and entertainment will be laid on. Our Relay For Life lasts 24 hours, runs overnight and includes a "Survivors Lap of Honour" and a moving "Candle of Hope Ceremony". SO HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

Team Captains must be 18 or over and will lead their teams on fundraising. They then let their friends/family/work colleagues know the team name and ask them to join them as Team members.
